Any Texan not crusading for the impeachment of Rick Perry forfeits the right to call him or herself an American. How much offal has to spew out of this waste of human life before he is drummed out of the Republican Party, drummed out of American politics and drummed out of sight of the public view? Texas shame and abomination. Rick Perry said Sunday that he believes rejecting LGBT people is similar to fighting slavery during the pre-Civil War era. Enough of this scum. The next person who even mentions the word "Texas" in my presence can expect a face full of spit.
I just read an essay by a United States Army chaplain who argues that marriage equality poses a threat to the First Amendment. He makes the usual perverse argument that inequality and bigotry are demanded by his intolerant God and that if "honorable" followers of Christ are forced to accept equality, then all is lost. The question for me is why is someone who denounces equality employed by the United States Army? Isn't that we fight for when we fight? Equality?
Remember when bigotry was sleazy and relegated to after-midnight lynchings by monsters in white hoods? Thanks to Jesus, no more. Now all you have to do is praise His name and He will bring you into the full light of day so that you can spread your venom, idiocy and hate-mongering like a crop duster on a summer's day.
Jason Collins has a bunch of straight athletes and straight sports reporters in a tizzy. I totally get it. The problem is that straight men like Chris Broussard and Larry Johnson believe that gay men will treat them the way so many professional straight athletes treat women. No wonder they're "uncomfortable". Heck, they should be downright terrified.
Opinions are like assholes; everyone has one. But while we're on this subject, if you're a gay man not comfortable with your own opinions and your own and other assholes, you've got some "you" work to do. I am convinced that gay men who claim to not like anal sex are gay men who are still struggling with some degree of self-homophobia (in the true "fear" sense of the word), self-esteem and sexuality. If you're not fully enjoying an uninhibted sex life, the problem is not "preference", the problem is fear--fear of who you are, fear of feminine stereotypes and fear of gay stereotypes.
The greatest challenge to feeling normal for anyone--gay, Jewish, elderly, black, etc.--is to find the strength and courage to step away from the allure and compelling lies of stereotypes. No matter how much we want to live up to the stereotypes that falsely define who we are, they simply are not true and they fuel our own self-loathing and lack of robust self-esteem. Bret Easton Eliis has become a poster boy for this sad pathology and GLAAD is right to shine a light on the bitterness and self-loathing that still plagues this and many other openly and successful gay men and women.
Why do fundamentalist Christians think that denying gay Americans constitutional and basic human rights is the work of Jesus in any way, manner or form? Where in their Bible does it say poeple who are different from you in any way should be hounded to death? Do Evangelicals get "Boy Scout" merit badges for every gay child they drive to suicide?
