They do know the word 'sanctity' but only in the context of straight marriage.

Well, what in the hell can we do when we feel like even our votes don't count? It's a fact that the votes of people in some states are worth more that votes of people in others, thanks to the electoral college. And then you hear about the government wanting to switch over to Diebold voting machines which will make voting fraud a virtual, absolute certainty. It's fucking depressing. What country do you move to?

Voting is now an empty gesture, a meaningless ritual to reinforce an illusion of choice. Things are worse than we think, and have been for longer than we realize.

Richard, while I agree all you said was true, you cannot blanketly blame everyone. This administration had divided the country into the "have and the have-nots." And believe me, all minorities, middle class, etc. fall into this new "have-nots." Don't think for a moment that this new law of search and seizure without warrant won't fly into those states that still have anti-sodomy laws. And moreso! I recall the sad events in Florida where a woman was cleaning her house in the nude. A neighbor boy was caught staring in. Was he sited? No, the woman was arrested for indecent exposure in her own house! These are not good times and they aren't going to get better. George Orwell was just a little off the time scale.

When the Supreme Court upheld the right of the police to enter your house without knocking or announcing their presence it put two conservative doctrines on a collion course. Recently, 11 states have passed NRA-backed bills that say that if an unknown person comes crashing through your door, you have the right to shoot first and ask questions later. So of course, one of these days, someone's going to shoot a cop and offer the latter law as a defense. This strikes me as a set of laws that can't help but clash...and often.

RICHARD COMMENTS: YOU MAKE A FASCINATING AND DARKLY HUMOROUS POINT.

Funny, "Simply put, the Bush Supreme Court has given the government the power to invade your home at will," as you put it wasn't at issue in the Michigan case.

Facts you left out: (1) Cops had a duly issued search warrant. (2) They knocked but waiting between 10 and 15 seconds before entering instead of the usual 20ish.

No legal babble, just the facts. Facts not disputed by the defense.

Do you want some herbal tea now?

Ooops.. Not 10-15 seconds.. but as much as 5 seconds. Yep... that makes all the difference.
