Latvia's Minister of the Interior has finally set the record straight. After several days of lies and propaganda from deluded eye witness homosexuals, seditious journalists and foreign rabble rousers like Peter Tatchell, the Latvian government spokesperson explains that the real victims of the misrepresented incidents of July 22 were the noble and virtuous Latvian police.
Furthermore, the minister made it clear that "all organizers will be made accountable, from both sides." Apparently, the homosexuals were as much to blame for the violence as the neo-Nazis.
The Latvian government spokesperson in fact applauded the fine work of the Riga policemen who were made to suffer at the hands of the gay rabble rousers and had no choice but to take sides with the loyal Latvians who stood for the very best of Latvian culture.
The interior minister also said that, quite possibly, somebody in Latvia or elsewhere in the world is interested in seeing public disorder during these events, though he did not name anyone specifically. "Therefore I reiterate one more time that our police force did a great job and anything of that kind was prevented from happening in Latvia," the minister said.
All in all, July 22 was a fine day for Latvia and attempts from foreign instigators and homosexual anarchists were thwarted.
(If you need me, I'll be spending the rest of the day smashing my head against the wall.)
Why oh why are you surprised?
Far from being the "modern democracy" you mentioned in your previous post (loved the 'you are here' map), Latvia, along with the other Baltic States has only a very recent and superficial relationship with being both modern or indeed, a democracy.
What it does have is a history of enthusiasm for, and participation in bigotry and WW2 warcrimes over and above the call of duty compared to other European occupied countries...
Of course the Russkies put a stop to all that but, since that wall came down, they're now free to be the low-life's they've always wanted to be.
Ah the East!
Try being a black student in Russia?
Eastern Europe is truly an open sewer...

Hmm, well not all of Eastern Europe is like that, I must say. I am, however, alarmed at the increasing radicalism in those countries of Eastern Europe that have traditionally been quite inward-looking: Poland, Latvia, Russia. Unfortunately, authoritarianism is really on the rise in these places.
There is, however, another Eastern Europe, which is becoming progressively more prosperous, democratic and tolerant. Countries like Czech Republic, Slovenia and Hungary, for example, are stable democracies where gay parades take place without fuss. In my country, Romania, things are also going pretty well... the gay pride in Bucharest was heavily and professionally protected by the police, and the government has done quite a lot for gay people. These countries are in many ways the future of Europe. It's a shame that the EU can't stop Poland and Latvia from sliding back into political backwardness. But don't paint all of Eastern Europe with the same brush :)
