Steve

This is the type of post that keeps me coming back to PAYOR. Richard, you are a storyteller, and this type of post contains more than just words ; it has soul. Thankyou

Michael

My friend HS was in charge of the clean-up crew for our friend Rob. Rob's apartment didn't have *hidden* perversion... it was right out in the open. A stack of videos beside the TV contained gems such as "Red Hanky Left" and "Fist Pigs" - and the whips and chains and dildos were on display on the counter.

Under the bed, there was a foot locker, closed with a padlock. HS was a little concerned... if you keep the Sure Shot hooked up in the shower and a Super Mega Dong conveniently on the bedside table... what do you lock in a chest?

With considerable trepidation, HS went and got bolt cutters and cut off the lock. The chest was full of decorator and fashion sewing magazines, flat pattern pieces, and swatches of fabric.

I guess he was still in the closet with his leather friends, about his fashion design.

I recall once as a cop, being asked to do this for a guy who had passed away. During a search at his home where he died we found stuff that his nearest and dearest didn't need to know about him at this time. I spoke with a brother and he just asked could we make it go away and preseve the memories they had of him rather than be left to discover such secrets the guy had never choosen to share when alive. It was the decent thing to do.

Two friends of mine have asked in the event of their sudden departure to saint it for them....and why not.

Richard...thanks for this piece and reminding us of the past, your own personal losses, I wish a new generation could know what their carelessness now might cost them in the near future. PS....love the shower curtain, where can I get one!!!!!!...xxx

Greg

magnificent (and an awesome shower curtain)

Alexander

What a wonderful, bittersweet story. I've been there too...

I am a straight woman who has, over the years helped Saint friends apartments. No matter what the situation, these were my friends and it was part of my purpose to help their families retain their memories as pristine. It is sad that the young coming out today are absolutely in the dark. The closet was never a good place but compared to what people (straight and gay) leave hanging out today it makes one long for closeted life....

where can I get that shower curtain for my guest room bath????

Alfredo

Holy crap, that shower curtain would get me arrested in a heartbeat here in the south.

pete

Beautiful story. I never knew that's what it was called. I never knew.

I had heard other terms for this time honored tradition, but "sainting" is the best.

My condolences on losing a great friend. Humorous in some ways, but sad in the loss.

Beautifully written. There are some true gems in your prose. I think I'm of a generation that isn't as familiar with this term.
